Jelly or Aspic Mold With Corn Pattern
Up for auction is this corn pattern kitchen molding dish. In spite of doing a lot of digging for information, I know very little about this mold. It would have been used for molding jellies, aspics or butter. I think it's made of stoneware, and it has a plain, creamy white glaze. It has a corn cob design in the bottom, and measures about 6 inches by 4½ inches by 3 inches deep. It's not marked. There is some slight mottling along the rim and in the bottom, but otherwise it's in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing.
This is one of three ceramic molds I purchased at an estate sale. I think this is probably an antique, dating back to the Victorian era, or perhaps older. Please check my other items if you'd like to see the others.
