Pair of Buffalo Dancer Kachinas
Up for auction is this pair of Buffalo Dancer Kachinas. One the interesting things about this pair of figurines is that I think they were made by father and son artists. One of them is signed "David Boyd, 1-5-96" and the other is also dated '96 and signed "David Boyd Jr."
Both are very well rendered art. The larger and better carved of the two was made by David Boyd. It's made with painted wood, leather, feathers and fur and is mounted on a cottonwood base. It measures about 10¼ inches tall.
The smaller of the two was made by David Boyd Jr. and constructed of painted wood, feathers and fur, and it's mounted on a composite wood base with a sandstone-like painted finish. It's not as well carved at the larger piece, but the detailed painting is excellent. It measures about 9½ inches tall.
